Watermelon Mojito
Refresh and rejuvenate with this Watermelon Mojito, a perfectly light, fizzy, and summery drink. This cocktail (or mocktail) is made with juicy watermelon, tangy lime, and fresh mint, offering a sweet and zesty twist on the traditional mojito. It’s naturally sweetened with the fruit itself, making it a healthier alternative to sugary cocktails. Plus, it’s a breeze to whip up, taking only a few minutes to make, and is just the thing to enjoy on a warm afternoon or while entertaining guests.
Total Time: 10 Mins
Active Time: 10 Mins
Yields: 2-3 Servings
Ingredients:
Fresh watermelon cubes – 2 cups (seedless)
Fresh lime juice – from 2 limes
Honey or agave nectar – 1 to 2 teaspoons (optional)
Fresh mint leaves – a handful (for muddling and garnish)
White rum – 1 ½ ounces (optional for a cocktail)
Sparkling water – 1 cup (for a mocktail)
Ice cubes – for serving
Method:
Blend the Watermelon: Add the watermelon cubes to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth and juice-like in consistency. If the juice appears too pulpy, strain it through a mesh strainer to remove any clumps or leftover pulp.
Combine the Ingredients: In a mason jar or large glass, combine the freshly blended watermelon juice, lime juice, and optional sweetener (honey or agave). Stir well to combine.
Muddle the Mint: Divide the fresh mint leaves between 2-3 tall glasses. Using the back of a wooden spoon or a muddler, gently press the mint leaves to release their oils. Add a squeeze of lime juice to help break down the mint leaves and enhance the flavor.
Assemble the Drink: Fill the glasses with ice and pour the watermelon-lime mixture over the ice. For a cocktail, add the white rum and stir. For a mocktail, use sparkling water or kombucha instead of rum and stir gently.
Garnish & Serve: Garnish each glass with a fresh sprig of mint and a small slice of watermelon (with or without the rind). Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing, hydrating drink!
Tips & Notes:
For a Sweeter Drink: Adjust the sweetness of your watermelon mojito by adding more honey or agave nectar as desired. You can also experiment with different sweeteners like maple syrup or stevia if you prefer a natural option.
Make-Ahead Option: The watermelon juice mixture can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours. Just give it a good shake or stir before serving.
Mocktail Option: If you prefer a non-alcoholic version, simply skip the rum and use sparkling water or kombucha for a fizzy, refreshing drink. The kombucha adds an extra layer of flavor and probiotics for a healthy twist!
For a Fun Twist: Add a splash of pineapple juice for an added tropical flair, or muddle in some cucumber for an extra refreshing touch.
Presentation Tip: For an extra pop of color and elegance, serve in tall, clear glasses and garnish with a little lime zest or edible flowers for a beautiful, Instagram-worthy drink!
